 Dia De Las Madres 

La celebración del Día de las Madres tiene sus antecedentes en la Grecia antigua en honor de Rhea , conocida como 'la madre de los dioses'. Durante el siglo XIX hubo algunas propuestas para dedicar un día a homenajear a las madres, pero no fue sino hasta 1907 cuando Ana Jarvis, nacida en Filadelfia, Estados Unidos, se reunió con un grupo de amigos y les planteó el reto de trabajar para que se estableciera una fecha para esta celebración.

A partir de ese momento comenzó una campaña para hacer que las autoridades accedieran a tal petición. Pronto se unieron amigos, vecinos y conocidos, quienes a través de folletos y textos en periódicos locales propagaron la idea en su comunidad. En 1908 se celebró la primera ceremonia no oficial para conmemorar a las madres en una iglesia metodista de Grafton, Virginia.El evento tuvo lugar el 10 de mayo del citado año y acudieron 407 mamás acompañadas de sus familias. En la ceremonia, Ana Jarvis regaló a cada madre presente un clavel, la flor favorita de su propia madre, quien había fallecido pocos años antes; desde entonces el clavel es representativo de este día. 

 

Mothers day

The mother's Day celebration has its antecedents in the ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, known as 'the mother of the gods'. During the 19th century there were some proposals to dedicate a day to honor mothers, but it was not until 1907 when Ana Jarvis, born in Philadelphia, United States, met with a group of friends and gave them the challenge to work for the establishment of a date for this celebration.
From this moment it began a campaign to do that the authorities were acceding to such a request. Soon there joined friends, neighbors and acquaintances, who across leaflets and texts in local newspapers spread the idea in his community. In 1908 the first not official ceremony was celebrated to commemorate the mothers in a church Methodist of Grafton, Virginia. The event took place on May 10 of the mentioned year and there came 407 moms accompanied of his families. In the ceremony, Ana Jarvis gave to every present mother a carnation, the favorite flower of his own mother, who had died a few years before; since then the carnation is representative of this day.
